January Newsletter
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that 2012 is upon us already. This is an exciting time for our Grade 8's as many of them are thinking about their graduation. In just a little less than 6 months we will be sending them on to the next chapter in their lives: high school. We have so much to do and learn together in the next 6 months.
In Math: Our focus in math for the next month is on integers and algebra. I strongly encourage your son / daughter to keep up on their homework and assigned class work as these units can be very difficult. As always, I am always here for extra help, so please encourage them to ask for it if they need it.
In Language: Our focus in language for the month of January is speeches. Students are in the process of choosing their own topic and are in the beginning stages of the research process. They each have been given a speech package that we are working on together as a class Just before the break, our class completed a newspaper unit and our culminating task was to create a class newspaper. I am happy to say that they have all written really great articles and we are in the process of putting together our own “classroom newspaper.” Once we are finished I am sure they would love to share their hard work with you.
In Science we are beginning a new unit on fluids. On January 19th, we are have The Scientist in the Classroom for half a day.
In Phys-ed we are currently doing a gymnastics and dance unit. We will also be doing a Fitness unit as well.
