Welcome to Ms. Swinnerton's class
October 25, 2011
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope everyone is enjoying our beautiful fall season. I would like to give you some news for the upcoming weeks.
Students are continuing in math with number sense. We are learning place value to represent numbers. We are also looking at expanded and standard form. Please continue to practice the multiplication tables with your child. This will be helpful when they are doing multiplication as well as dividing.
Today students began the first stage in researching for a health project they are doing on nutrition. More information on this will follow. As you probably know all project work must be completed at school. This is a direction by the ministry. Having said that, please feel free to discuss and coach your child on these projects.
We have been invited to attend the Veterans Day Fair which is held in the Armouries. this is a wonderful opportunity for your child to explore history and see and talk to our veterans. We will be walking and a permission form will be sent home soon.
Please continue to have your child read every evening. You may ask questions after for understanding. Questions that are open ended would include their viewpoint on the main character, or why they think the author wrote this story etc. Reading to your child is also a positive thing to do because it instills a love of reading.
As always please feel free to contact me at the school with any questions.
Sincerely
K. Swinnerton
